ABOUT DR. DIANA MONEA

There was no roadmap. So I built one.

I became an optometrist in 1978 with a commitment to my patients, an independent streak, and no idea just how many different roles that career would eventually ask me to take on.

Clinician. Business owner. Employer. CEO. Educator. Entrepreneur. Speaker. Author.

More than four decades later, I’ve built businesses, led teams, navigated enormous change and sold the company I spent much of my life creating.

Now, I’m taking everything those years taught me into what comes next.

MY STORY

A Vision Beyond the Lens

My career began with optometry, but it was never only about what happened in the exam room.

As I began building independent practices, I quickly discovered that clinical expertise was only part of the job. I had to learn how to hire people, lead teams, make difficult decisions, adapt, take risks and build something that could grow.

No one handed me a roadmap for that part. I learned by doing.

Over the years, I built and led practices in Saskatchewan and Alberta and became far more than the title on my degree.

Somewhere along the way, the optometrist became an entrepreneur.

"Sometimes you become the roadmap for the people who come after you."

MORE THAN FOUR DECADES OF DOING THE WORK

Experience changes your perspective

Business taught me that success isn't simply about getting bigger. Growth matters—but so do your people, your time, your relationships and the life you're building alongside the business.

Then, after decades of building, I sold the company.

Suddenly, the question wasn't How do I grow this?

It was: What now?

I could see everything behind me as a career completed—or as more than four decades of experience I finally had the opportunity to use differently.

I wasn't starting over. I was starting from experience.

That realization became the beginning of what I'm building now.

EXPERIENCE, PUT TO WORK

Today, I get to use what
I’ve learned differently.

Today, my work extends beyond the profession where my career began.

Through consulting, speaking, education and writing, I bring lived experience to business owners and professionals navigating questions I've faced myself:

How do I grow? How do I lead? How do I navigate change? How do I prepare for a transition? And what comes next?

I don't believe there is one perfect formula.

But I've been in the room when the answers weren't obvious.

And experience changes the way you see the possibilities.

THE BUTTERFLY

Becoming who you were always meant to be.

The butterfly has always meant more to me than transformation.

Inside the chrysalis, something new is forming long before the world can see it. And when the butterfly finally emerges, it doesn't yet know the beauty it will bring simply by being itself.

At every age, there is still something within us waiting to emerge, something uniquely our own.

For me, the butterfly is a reminder that becoming isn't something we finish.

There is always another version of ourselves waiting to be discovered.
That is why it has become part of my story, and part of this new chapter.

I’ve never been particularly interested in disappearing into the background.

I love colour. Fashion. Eyewear. Books. Creativity. Learning. Great conversation and people who see the world a little differently.

And I don't believe becoming more experienced means becoming less interesting. Experience should make our lives bigger, not smaller.

There are still ideas I want to explore, stories I want to tell, rooms I want to speak in and work I believe I can contribute.

I'm still building. If you're building something too, let's talk.
